DIY Velvety Whipped Body Butter
You know that feeling of silk so soft it doesn’t feel like you’re touching anything? Well that’s what my legs feel like after applying this.
I live in Canada, southern Ontario to be mildly specific. People think we have 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Well when it comes to skin, we only have 2: dry & flaky or humid & radiant.
Each year, about two weeks into Fall is when the dry skin season starts. This persists until the first break of summer when humidity reaches a point where could drink the air. And if you’re asking me (hot weather lover) the ratio is entirely unfair; it’s about 9 months dry, 3 months luxurious humidity.
So this cream has been a lifesaver. It’s a beautiful mixture of cocoa butter and coconut oil with the optional addition of essential oils for either therapeutic or scent preferences. And that’s it, those three ingredients plus a double-boiler, stand or hand mixer, and a bowl.
I absolutely love using this cream before bed. I’ll lather up my legs and feet, put on my cosiest and likely most embarrassing socks and let the butter work it’s silky magic.
So let’s get to it!
1 ½ cups cocoa butter
½ cup coconut oil
8 drops essential oil (to start)
1. Using a double boiler (or a glass bowl over a pot) melt the cocoa butter and coconut oil completely.
2. Transfer mixture to a bowl and place it in the freezer to firm but don’t let it freeze completely. This takes about 10-20 minutes.
3. Once slightly hardened, use a hand or stand mixer with the whisk attachment to whip butter until light and fluffy. This takes about 5 minutes.
4. Store in a glass jar for up to 3-6 months.
